Vocational Mentoring is a strengths-based programme that supports rangatahi aged 14-17 to gain skills, build confidence, and explore pathways into employment or further education. Our focus is on equipping young people with the tools they need to thrive in life beyond the youth justice system.
About the Programme
Who We Support
Vocational Mentoring is designed for rangatahi aged 14–17 in the Auckland region who are referred by Oranga Tamariki, including those involved in the Youth Justice system and subject to court orders. All referrals require a completed admission form submitted to the Team Leader for approval.
Programme Details
Each rangatahi is supported over a 3–6 month placement, guided by an individualised plan tailored to their goals. In some cases, placements can be extended to ensure a young person’s readiness to transition. Discharge is arranged in consultation with the referrer, with a written report summarising outcomes and progress.
Programme Activities and Mentorship
Upon referral, each rangatahi is matched with a dedicated vocational mentor who provides consistent, one-on-one guidance. Mentors connect with participants for 2 – 4 hours each week, alongside ongoing communication via text and email. Together, they build a pathway toward employment, education, and personal growth through:
